Peace Test
Peacetest is one of the longest-running successful projects which MMSA holds. It is in fact an international project based on Albert Bandura’s moral disengagement theory, so therefore it aims to instil moral standards and encourage deep thought, to both students and facilitators.
The session is started with the facilitators (usually two medical students) presenting the students with a picture of a bus, and on each seat there is a person representing a marginalised sector of society.
The students are asked next to whom they would definitely not sit, and why. What follows is a controlled debate about issues as diverse as human trafficking, stereotypes, sexuality, torture, xenophobia, and human rights, especially in the medical context.
The sessions are beneficial to medical students since they also learn to think profoundly about the background of their patients, they get to know the opinion of the students, and they learn public speaking skills and how to conduct interactive sessions. In fact, in the beginning of each scholastic year, interested medical students are given training on human rights in order to prepare them for Peacetest sessions.
