Calling all 1st Years and Active Members interested in Diabetes Awareness Month Health Checks!
Hey everyone!
I'm super excited to announce that we will be finally launching this year’s Diabetes Awareness Campaign, starting off with our World Diabetes Day Workshop, which will be taking place on Wednesday 5th November, at 3pm till 7pm, at Central Auditorium, MDH.
Diabetes is a widespread health concern in the Maltese Islands, making it essential for us, as medical students, to raise awareness and share valuable information with the public, on how to maintain their health and well-being. To support this effort, we have organised an annual workshop to teach medical students key skills in measuring blood pressure, blood glucose, blood cholesterol levels, BMI, waist circumference and pulse oximetry, offering the chance for members to practice these skills. Additionally, we will guide you on how to communicate these measurements effectively to the public. We have also asked Prof.Kevin Cassar, a Consultant Vascular Surgeon, who will be delivering a very interesting presentation! Finally, we will be having a quiz based on any material covered during the workshop, with a prize for the winners.
Those who attend the workshop will also receive a certificate for participation!
There will be two available sessions from 3 till 5pm, and 5pm till 7pm, with limited applicants. Positions are on a first come first served basis, so later applications will be asked to attend the less-filled session.
IMPORTANT: Even if you attended past workshops, only attendees of this year's workshop will be allowed to take part in World Diabetes Day itself and subsequent health checks throughout the month. Both a stethoscope and a sphygmomanometer are needed for the WDD Workshop and health checks, so I urge those who haven’t bought one yet, to buy as soon as possible.
Applications close on Sunday 2nd November at 11.59pm. Applicants will be contacted on Monday by email confirming their acceptance and which session they can attend.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact myself, Elena Katrina Xuereb, Sophie Fitzpatrick, Kyra Abela, Thea Sultana, Jake Darmanin, Jake Midolo and Kristina Sammut.
