The President’s role is to safeguard the statute and policy of the MMSA whilst being the main organ of prosperity in professionalism, representation and efficacy. As the front person, and main representative of MMSA, the President must collaborate with various external entities, working hard to maintain good relationships and ensuring that the student body is at the centre of all decisions made. It is also the responsibility of the President to ensure the smooth functioning of the entire Board of Directors, and MMSA as a whole!
President
The Vice President for External Affairs is responsible for liaising with external entities with the aim of improving the organisation’s professional relations and also bringing forward new opportunities for the association's members. Together with the policy team, she also oversees the creation and adherence to MMSA’s policy. She is the main point of contact for international organisations that MMSA forms part of including IFMSA (the International Federation of Medical Student Associations) and EMSA (the European Medical Student Association) and is also responsible for a number of events including Freshers’ Week and Science in the City.
Vice President for External Affairs
The Vice President for Internal Affairs mainly coordinates the administration of the Board of Directors from the inside and ensures that it is functioning well, both as individuals and more so as MMSA. They are in charge of taking care of the office, overseeing the Standing Committee heads and their events, planning out the MMSA calendar, and compiling the RAR - a report which, due to MMSA being such a big organisation, always exceeds two and a half thousand pages!
Vice President for Internal Affairs
The secretary general oversees organizational operations and fosters collaboration and inclusion to achieve the missions and goals of MMSA. My role is to organise the board meetings, act as a legal representative, take official minutes and that of executive matters. However, this job is even more interesting and enjoyable as I also get to organise one of MMSA's most important events: the infamous TRD!
Secretary General
The Treasurer is responsible for overseeing all of MMSA’s finances, sponsorships, grants, and merchandise distribution, as well as carrying out financial planning and budgeting for the term. Like all other offices and standing committees, the treasurer’s office has its own duties, such as arranging discounts and special offers for medical students and handing out grants for international opportunities and conferences. The team also organises various fundraising events for members and the general public to invest in our future events and in our members.
Treasurer
The Public Relations Officer oversees the operations of the Public Relations office. This office is responsible for enhancing MMSA's image and brand. Additionally, this team is responsible for the publication of MMSA's annual report and other significant yearly publications, ensuring adherence to the Corporate Identity Protocol.
Public Relations Officer
SCOPET, The Standing Committee on Peer Education and Training, is the division of the Malta Medical Students’ Association that addresses the transmission of knowledge and skills to fellow students of all ages. It aims to promote and emphasise the importance of improving the soft skills of medical students, as well as enhancing children's education. Medical students educate children on various health-related themes, with the goal of establishing a sense of appreciation and awareness of scientific matters within the community. Our peer education sessions are delivered voluntarily by well-prepared medical students who share a common passion for spreading knowledge. All events organised by SCOPET aim to provide a platform for our students to improve their soft skills, such as public speaking, teamwork and time management skills, which are of utmost importance in the medical course. SCOPET also aims to provide opportunities for medical students to improve their skills even further by attending training sessions both locally and internationally.
Peer Eduction and Training Officer
The Standing Committee on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights including HIV and AIDS (SCORA) organises a wide range of campaigns and initiatives targeting comprehensive sexual education, maternal health, sexuality & gender identity, gender-based violence and HIV & other STIs. Our events strive to equip medical students with the pivotal medical knowledge and clinical skills relating to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), whilst also improving SRHR knowledge and eradicating SRHR-related stigma amongst the general public.
Sexual and Reproductive Health Officer
The Standing Committee on Medical Education (SCOME) works to implement an optimal learning environment for medical students. As a team we work to improve our medical education through clinical skills training, specialised courses, an official scientific publication, informative talks by professionals and the preparation of academic guides and documents to supplement our learning. SCOME educates students by equipping them with the right skill set to act as active mediators for change as part of their personal and professional development. SCOME centres around the needs of our students especially through our feedback collection, class representatives and advocacy campaigns. This is done through our joint efforts to bridge the gap between the student cohorts, faculty and administration.
Medical Education Officer
The Standing Committee on Public Health organizes a variety of public events all aimed at promoting, educating and raising awareness about all aspects of health among the general public and medical students alike. Events range from small-scale health checks, educational sessions for children and fitness sessions for medical students to large-scale outreaching events such as World Diabetes Day. The team works tirelessly all year round to address most of the pressing public health issues both locally and internationally, be it through social media or physical campaigns throughout the year.
Public Health Officer
SCORP, the Standing Committee on Human Rights and Peace focuses on advocating for the defence of human rights, peace and strength in inclusion. The SCORP team organizes activities related to mental health, human rights and their violation, refugee health and volunteering with vulnerable groups on both a local and international level. These topics form an important part of the medical field as they bridge the gap in medical students' education, teaching them essential soft skills. Giving them the confidence to interact with different patients in the future as medical doctors and bring a smile on the faces of the people that they help.
Human Rights and Peace Officer
The Standing Committee on Professional and Research Exchanges (SCOPRE) within MMSA helps students go on exchanges in various countries all over the world. The Outgoings branch focuses on local students and helps them experience different healthcare systems or participate in research projects in other countries. We give the opportunity to students to experience a different culture and make the most of their summers as medical students, engaging in different relationships and unique experiences!
Exchanges-Out Officer
The Standing Committee on Professional and Research Exchanges Incoming (SCOPRE-In) welcomes foreign Incoming IFMSA exchange students from all over the world to our island with the aim to promote cultural understanding and cooperation amongst medical students and all health professionals. Besides organising the hospital clerkships and research projects, the Exchanges-In Office also makes sure to organise a jam-packed social progamme, from beach days and trips to Gozo and Comino, to pub crawls and the famous National Food and Drinks Party, whilst also organising academic workshops to increase the Academic Quality of our exchanges.

Electives are excellent opportunities for medical students to experience a clinical placement in a hospital of their choice. These Electives are organised by the students themselves and thus can be more flexible when it comes to specialities, duration, and location! The Electives office aims to assist students who wish to attend an Elective Placement in Malta by processing their application, organising an exciting Social Programme and also being there to answer any questions they might have! In addition to this, this office aims to provide useful resources for local students to plan and embark on their own Electives abroad! When it comes to Electives, the possibilities are bound only by the extent of one’s imagination and initiative!
Electives Officer
The Leisure Officer shall be responsible for organising MMSA sport and entertainment events, as well as working with MMSA standing commitlees and other student organisations to organise such events.
