It is time for Student Spotlight again!
Our April edition features Mattea Gouder, a first-year medical student. Mattea has a passion for singing and acting, and is performing in this year’s KSU Students’ Fest ‘The Non-Committal Little Mermaid’, where she is starring in the lead role as Ariel.
Listen to what Mattea had to tell us:
What encouraged you to apply for Students Fest?
Some friends of mine who had done it the previous year couldn't stop talking about how much fun it was and encouraged me to audition. Since I stopped doing shows and performing due to A levels, this was the perfect opportunity to get back into it again.
Do you have any previous experiences of acting and productions that you cherish?
More than I can count! I attended Stagecoach Theatre Arts School from 4-16 and we'd put on numerous shows. My all time favorite experience has to be taking part in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in Surrey with Stagecoach students from all around the world. My most recent productions include Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood Pantomine and Girls Like That with Masquerade in 2016.
How did you manage to balance your academic commitments with Students Fest?
Lots and lots of coffee! As amazing as this experience has been, it's been a challenge having to balance rehearsals with studying for exams. I tried to manage my time as best as I could and sometimes took work to rehearsals to try to study during scenes. That being said, it really helped with stress to take a break and focus on something else!
Thank you Mattea for being our April entry of our Student Spotlight initiative! We wish you the best of luck in the upcoming shows this weekend!
